Al-shabab intelligence Chief Mahat Karatey, 10 others killed

Addis Ababa, 19 February 2016 (WIC) – Al Shabaab Deputy Commander and overall head of Al Shabab Intelligence wing,  Mahad Mohammed Karatey aka Mahat Karatey and 10 other middle level commanders were killed in a major KDF strike on the Nadris camp between Buale and Sukow,” Kenya’s Ministry of Defence  announced.

A statement released by the Ministry indicated that the Karatey was killed after Kenyan forces serving under the AMISOM attacked Nadris camp between Buale and Sokuw on February 8, 2016.

According to newvision, the Uganda Peoples Defence Force Spokesperson, Paddy Ankunda confirmed that the KDF had struck the Al Shabaab base in Somalia and that Mahad was among those killed. “His death is a major boost to the AMISOM forces in their fight against terror,” Ankunda said.

Karate, also known as Abdirahim Mohamed Warsame, was responsible for the recent attack on Garissa University College in Kenya that resulted in nearly 150 deaths.
The U.S. Department of State had designated Mahad Karate under Executive Order 13224, which targets terrorists and those providing support to terrorists or acts of terrorism.
